General Service

What is anesthesia-free dental cleaning?
Anesthesia-free dental cleaning is a gentle, non-invasive procedure where we clean your pet's teeth while they're awake and comfortable. Our trained specialists use gentle techniques and positive reinforcement to remove plaque and tartar buildup without the need for sedation. This method is safer for most pets, eliminates anesthesia risks, and allows for immediate recovery.
Is anesthesia-free dental cleaning safe for my pet?
Yes! Anesthesia-free dental cleaning is extremely safe for most pets. In fact, it eliminates the risks associated with anesthesia, such as allergic reactions, respiratory complications, or cardiac issues. Our specialists are trained to recognize stress signals and will only proceed if your pet is comfortable. We prioritize your pet's wellbeing above all else.
What are the benefits of choosing anesthesia-free cleaning?
Key benefits include:
  • No anesthesia risks - Eliminates complications from sedation
  • Immediate recovery - Your pet returns to normal activity right away
  • More affordable - Typically costs less than traditional dental procedures
  • Convenient - Mobile service comes to your home
  • Regular maintenance - Safe to repeat every 6-12 months
  • Less stressful - No overnight stays or fasting required
How is this different from traditional veterinary dental cleaning?
Traditional veterinary dental cleaning requires general anesthesia, meaning your pet is unconscious during the procedure. While this allows for sub-gingival cleaning (below the gum line), it comes with anesthesia risks, requires fasting, and involves a longer recovery time. Our anesthesia-free approach focuses on preventive care - removing visible plaque and tartar to maintain oral health between deeper veterinary cleanings when necessary. We're not a replacement for veterinary care, but rather a complementary maintenance service.
Do you really come to my home?
Yes! We bring all our professional equipment and supplies directly to your home. Our mobile service means your pet can be cleaned in their familiar environment, reducing stress and eliminating travel time for you. We only need access to water and a comfortable space to work. This convenience is included in all our pricing with no additional travel fees within our service area.

The Process

How long does the cleaning take?
Most cleaning sessions take between 30-60 minutes, depending on your pet's size, temperament, and the amount of buildup present. We never rush the process - we work at your pet's pace to ensure they remain comfortable throughout. Some pets may require a shorter initial session to build trust, with a follow-up appointment to complete the cleaning.
What happens during the appointment?
Here's what to expect:
  • Arrival & Setup (5-10 min) - We arrive with all equipment and set up in your chosen space
  • Meet & Greet (5 min) - We get to know your pet and let them get comfortable with us
  • Pre-Cleaning Assessment (5 min) - We examine your pet's teeth and take before photos
  • Gentle Cleaning (20-40 min) - We carefully remove plaque and tartar using specialized tools
  • Polish & Finish (5-10 min) - We polish teeth and take after photos
  • Review & Recommendations (5 min) - We discuss our findings and home care tips
How should I prepare for the appointment?
To prepare for your appointment:
  • Choose a quiet, comfortable space with good lighting
  • Have your pet's favorite treats ready for positive reinforcement
  • Keep other pets in a separate room to minimize distractions
  • Have your pet well-rested (avoid excessive exercise right before)
  • No need to fast - your pet can eat and drink normally
  • Have access to water available for us to use
Don't worry if your pet seems nervous - our specialists are experts at creating a calm environment!
Can I stay with my pet during the cleaning?
Absolutely! We encourage you to be present if it makes you and your pet more comfortable. Some pets do better with their owners nearby, while others are calmer when owners are in another room. Our specialist will assess your pet's behavior and recommend what works best. You're always welcome to check in at any time during the process.
What aftercare is required?
Great news - there's no special aftercare required! Your pet can resume normal activities immediately, including eating, drinking, and playing. We'll provide you with recommendations for at-home dental care to maintain the results, such as dental chews, water additives, or brushing techniques. We recommend professional cleanings every 6-12 months, depending on your pet's oral health.

Safety & Certification

Are your technicians certified and trained?
Yes! All our pet dental specialists are professionally trained in anesthesia-free dental cleaning techniques. Our team has over 5 years of combined experience and has successfully cleaned teeth for thousands of pets across Florida. We undergo continuous education to stay current with the latest techniques and best practices in pet dental care.
How do you sterilize your equipment?
We follow strict sterilization protocols to ensure the safety of every pet. All instruments are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized using professional-grade disinfectants between each appointment. We use disposable items whenever possible, and all reusable tools are sterilized according to industry standards. Your pet's health and safety are our top priorities.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, Pawsome Smile is fully licensed and insured. We carry comprehensive liability insurance to protect both our team and our clients. We operate in full compliance with Florida regulations for pet care services. You can book with confidence knowing you're working with a professional, legitimate business.
What if you find a problem during the cleaning?
If we discover any concerning issues such as broken teeth, severe gum disease, oral tumors, or other conditions that require veterinary attention, we'll immediately inform you and recommend following up with your veterinarian. We provide a detailed report of our findings that you can share with your vet. Our goal is preventive maintenance, not treatment of dental diseases - that's best left to licensed veterinarians.

Pet Care & Health

What breeds do you work with?
We work with all breeds of dogs and cats! From tiny Chihuahuas to giant Great Danes, from Persian cats to domestic shorthairs - we've successfully cleaned teeth for pets of every breed, size, and temperament. Our specialists tailor their approach to each individual pet's needs and personality.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
We typically work with pets 6 months and older who have their adult teeth. Young pets can benefit from early dental care to establish good habits and prevent future problems. Senior pets are also excellent candidates for anesthesia-free cleaning, as it eliminates the increased risks of anesthesia in older animals. There's no maximum age limit!
What if my pet is anxious or aggressive?
Our specialists are trained in handling anxious and fearful pets. We use positive reinforcement, patience, and calming techniques to help nervous pets relax. We always prioritize your pet's emotional wellbeing and will never force a procedure if a pet is too stressed. For extremely anxious or aggressive pets, we may recommend working with a veterinary behaviorist or considering sedated cleaning with your vet instead. Your pet's safety and comfort come first.
Can you clean teeth for pets with health conditions?
Anesthesia-free cleaning is often an excellent option for pets with health conditions that make anesthesia risky, such as heart disease, kidney disease, liver problems, or diabetes. However, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian first to ensure dental cleaning is appropriate for your pet's specific condition. Please inform us of any health issues or medications when booking so we can properly prepare.
Can you clean teeth for pregnant or nursing pets?
Yes! Anesthesia-free cleaning is safe for pregnant and nursing pets. In fact, maintaining good oral health during pregnancy is important, as dental disease can affect overall health. We use gentle techniques that are safe for expectant or nursing mothers. Dental health during pregnancy can even benefit the health of the puppies or kittens!

How far in advance should I book?

Check our booking calendar for real-time availability, or call us to inquire about rush appointments.
How often should my pet get their teeth cleaned?
We recommend professional anesthesia-free cleaning every 6-12 months for most pets, similar to human dental visits. The exact frequency depends on your pet's age, breed, diet, and oral health condition. Pets prone to dental issues may benefit from more frequent cleanings (every 6 months), while others with excellent oral health may only need annual cleanings. We'll provide personalized recommendations after assessing your pet's teeth.
